Career Session Chapter 01

What were your responsibilities in your previous job?

M.K
I come from the real estate industry, which is completely unrelated to telecommunications or office equipment. My primary role involved introducing rental properties. However, I always wanted to try corporate sales and outbound sales, where you proactively develop clients. Additionally, many people from companies selling office equipment had entered the real estate industry, and I had heard that this industry has many merit-based companies where sales performance directly impacts compensation and promotions. H.O., you also came from the real estate industry, right?
H.O
Yes, my previous job was with a company that managed parking lots, where I worked in acquiring land. My role involved finding vacant or idle land by car, checking the registration with authorities, and approaching landowners or managing companies. However, when I considered how far I could grow within that company, I felt a desire to challenge myself in a different industry.
M.K
Y.M, you were in IT sales, right? Were you also successful in that field
Y.M
Unfortunately, not at all... (laughs). I was working in sales providing specialized services related to web marketing, such as SEO optimization, but I wasn't able to achieve good results. The company I joined wasn't one I entered because of my strength in IT, so sales were very challenging. Before that, I worked in the construction industry because my father ran a construction business.
Career Session Chapter 02

Can you tell me the reason for joining Vision?

M.K
None of you had particularly outstanding sales results in your previous jobs, did you? So, why did you choose to take on a new challenge with sales at Vision? Let’s start with you, H.O
H.O
I always had a desire to grow as a professional. I wanted to be recognized for doing large-scale work and aimed to achieve a position where I could afford a house or a new car. From a young age, I dreamed of achieving these goals as an adult. I chose Vision because, during the interview, I learned that it is a company with a 'merit-based' and 'collective success-oriented' environment, where I could realize my dreams.
M.K
I see. For me, a significant factor was when I resonated with President Sano's statement during the company briefing that he started the company with the vision of creating the best company in Japan, inspired by seeing Mount Fuji. I wanted to work under this leader. How about you, Y.M.
Y.M
I knew that Vision was about to launch a business selling mobile phones to corporations, and I had a gut feeling that this business would grow. I guess I sensed the entrepreneurial spirit of Vision. H.O, you've been promoted to Assistant Manager in just under two years since joining. Is the path to achieving your dreams going smoothly?
H.O
So far, things are going smoothly. The next step is to become a manager, but I still need to work a bit harder for that. As for buying a house, I am currently in the process of actively searching for one.
M.K
That's fast!
Career Session Chapter 03

Can you tell me about your current job responsibilities?

M.K
Currently, I am involved in sales for office equipment, primarily copiers. I identify and address our clients' current issues and challenges through consultations, and provide proposals for improving operational efficiency. As a section chief, I am responsible not only for achieving my own sales targets but also for meeting the team's targets, so guiding my subordinates is a crucial part of my role. Additionally, I also support my superiors in their tasks.
Y.M
Since joining the company, I have been involved in corporate sales for providing mobile phones to businesses. When I first joined the sales office in Osaka, I learned sales techniques from younger section chiefs and leaders. Over time, I surpassed them in sales performance and steadily progressed in my career. After two years, I was transferred to the Shinjuku sales office, where I am currently based. As a playing manager, I am also responsible for achieving the team's sales targets.
H.O
I handle products such as office telephones, telephone lines, internet lines, and security measures. Since I have just been promoted to section chief, I am managing the overall sales progress of the team while also focusing on achieving my own sales targets, which is quite challenging. How do you both approach management?
Y.M
I think the first step is to achieve overwhelming numbers yourself and build credibility. It’s important to create positive pressure on the team by demonstrating that 'the section chief is leading and achieving big targets, so we need to step up as well.
M.K
In order to achieve the team's overall goals, it is crucial to meet your own targets, which often make up a significant portion of the team's objectives. Leading by example is essential to ensure that your subordinates follow your lead.
At the assistant manager level, it is important to leverage your experience to engage in deep conversations with clients, uncover their needs, and provide effective solutions to increase contract numbers. This approach is something I make sure my subordinates are aware of.
Career Session Chapter 04

Can you explain the differences in the sales structures between your previous job and Vision?

M.K
Vision has well-developed websites for each of its services compared to competitors, and it has established web marketing that captures both active and potential customers.
Y.M
Additionally, there is a system where the telemarketing team makes calls to customers to set up appointments for the sales team. This allows for immediate and specific proposals, leading to high-conversion potential business negotiations.
H.O
My department doesn't have the backup of a telemarketing team, but since we make initial calls to customers who have contacted us through the website, the likelihood of closing a deal is very high. However, it's very efficient in terms of time management not having to set appointments yourself, like in the departments you both are in.
Y.M
we also ensure that newcomers experience making calls and setting appointments themselves as part of their training. Searching for customers is the fundamental aspect of sales.
M.K
Indeed. Eventually, you'll also understand the importance of the appointments provided by the telemarketing team.
H.O
In my previous job in parking lot sales, we used a roller-type approach where we visited one area at a time. However, I find that the sales style at Vision is much more efficient compared to that. Nowadays, there are many ideas on how to do things differently and better.
Y.M
When I was doing sales for SEO measures, I would check the homepage each time using the customer list and schedule appointments. So, the time spent making appointments was longer than the time spent on visits.
M.K
Salespeople don’t need to spend time searching for promising clients and can focus on negotiations, thanks to the foundation provided by the website and the telemarketing team. That’s why there is a strong motivation to leverage this environment and increase sales figures even further.
Career Session Chapter 05

What aspects are helping you grow?

M.K
In my case, having the opportunity to meet with company executives has been very educational. I have learned about the management philosophies of many companies and have been exposed to various business know-how, which has been very stimulating. Additionally, before returning to Tokyo, I worked in sales offices in Nagoya and Sendai, where I experienced the challenges and interesting aspects of regional sales. I believe that this experience has broadened my perspective as a salesperson.
H.O
Becoming a assistant manager within two years of joining the company and soon purchasing a house—these achievements reflect my steady effort and growth as a professional, thanks to the company's meritocratic and fair evaluation culture. It's a company where you can see a future full of dreams.
Y.M
I believe I’ve been nurtured by Vision. The competitive environment drives me to put in that extra effort. It’s satisfying to win in a competition, and losing is frustrating. Being able to compete in such an open and fair environment is very rewarding.
Additionally, Vision's sales process benefits from a strong support system provided by the website and telemarketing team, allowing for numerous business negotiations. This is a significant advantage not offered by other companies, as it greatly enhances the experience and skills of the sales team.
M.K
Handling products from some of the world's leading companies is also a valuable learning experience. The numerous opportunities to establish new business departments and sales offices from scratch are also very characteristic of Vision.
Y.M
I find that Vision is a company where the atmosphere is open and approachable. As long as you can deliver results, you have the freedom to approach things in your own way, which makes it easy for employees with creative ideas to thrive. If you have the motivation, there are abundant opportunities for personal growth within the company.
